Happy Birthday Pink - Saturday May 30, 2009

In one of my friend's front yard, she is growing this Pink double peony. I stopped in my tracks when I saw it. I had seen double peony photographs in mail order nursery catalogs but had not seen one face-to-face before. She certainly has a green thumb. Isn't this plant lovely?

Today is the first birthday of Pink Saturday. Think I'll have a slice of Pink cake and some strawberry milk and then visit other sites that has a Pink theme at: http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/. Thank you Beverly for being our hostess for a whole year.

Chicago Turkish Festival

A friend of mine and I took the "L" downtown to experience the Chicago Turkish Festival at the Daley Plaza www.ChicagoTurkishFestival.org. While there, in one of the booths I was handed this gift:

Seven Advice of Mevlana
#1
In generosity and helping others be
like a river,
#2
In compassion and grace be
like sun,
#3
In concealing others' faults be
like night,
#4
In anger and fury
be like dead,
#5
In modesty and humility
be like earth,
#6
In tolerance
be like a sea,
#7
Either exist as you are or
be as you look.

Skywatch Friday #46

Photo was taken at Niagara Falls, May 2009 from the United States side. Skyscrapers are located on Canadian side. My husband and I were amazed at the sound of the water as it hit bottom. We will always remember the wind and the mist experienced at the falls. Interested in the facts: http://www.niagarafallslive.com/Facts_about_Niagara_Falls.htm

5/26 Outdoor Wednesday #20

I never heard of a Garden Swap before. At a local restaurant I found this brochure which asked participates to bring seeds, plants, gardening books or just conversation. I decided to swap morning glory and shasta daisy seeds for some lovely purple geraniums which are suppose to bloom in the shade. A welcoming committee greeted me as I entered the yard. There was a sign up sheet asking for email addresses. Incoming plants were to be placed in the sunny or shady areas, seeds were to be put in a box with the rest offered, gardening books were found at the hostess table, they also provided a holding area for the plants chosen to await their new owner to come and pick them up. There was food. There was background music. There was a self guided tour of two yards. Remember this event was FREE. Here are pictures of some of the plants I saw while at the Garden Swap Friday evening, May 22, 2009.

A welcome sign in one of the yards.
A purple clematis already in full bloom. Notice the pink clematis hiding below. How cute is that?
This is the same clematis but I changed it to a black and white photograph and cropped the image to emphasize textures and shapes.

Unidentified plants. Perhaps one of you know the name of this flower.
Both of these are hosta plants.

Thematic Photographic 50 - Signs

Most who attempted to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel or a jet ski do not succeed. If you are interested in including this museum when you visit Niagara Falls here is the address: The DareDevil Museum, 303 Rainbow Boulevard at Third Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303.

SkyWatch Friday #45

These two photographs were taken recently in Buffalo, New York while visiting relatives. We scheduled a trip to the Buffalo Erie County Botanical Gardens. It was a clear day but chilly.

Pink Saturday - May 2, 2009

Oh where, oh where has April gone? Here it is May already. 2009 is just flying by and I am behind doing my goals. Oh well. What's new? I know that it has been raining here and then raining some more but today the sun came out. How are we going to spend the day? We are not going to be inside much because we are going to see our grandchildren play baseball. Pack: sun block, water and folding chairs.

Thank you Elisa Au Fonseca for giving me permission to post this lovely Pink building and information about this martial arts site.
I was on an errand and discovered this gorgeous Pink building which was built in 1910.
Here is the entrance.

Look up to see different angles.
Notice the window reflections and Pink paint.

Painted structures have such character. I adore old buildings. Don't you?

Think I'll make a cup of tea and then visit other sites that has a pink theme at: http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/. Thank you Beverly for being our hostess.
