Poem: Oh No, They Will Be Singing Amazing Grace Soon

Wrapped up in blankets
like an Egyptian mummy
wrinkles winding down
a brown corduroy face
streaked with frozen tears and hot blood
a homeless woman was dying.

A Salvation Army Band played
Onward Christian Soldiers
a nearby vendor sold hot chestnuts
women wearing "White Shoulders" perfume and fur coats
took the revolving door to shop
ignoring the pain of an old woman with mahogany eyes.

Curious wheat haired boys whispered
they fled in the December wind
as sirens screamed.

Skywatch Friday - Season 4, Episode 29

Lake Michigan is my muse. It seems I go there time and time again. The lighting is always different. Even the shoreline changes with waves coming in and going out, then freezing, then melting, it is so exciting.

One time my younger son had a photography assignment in high school to go to one place every week for one month. Since he choose Lake Michigan as his theme and didn't drive that made me responsible to drive him to and from the lake for four weeks. It was winter. On one trip, we arrived to find balls of snow scattered everywhere on the beach. He actually went inside a wave that was frozen. My heart stopped. To save him I climbed inside to bring him out. It was awesome to stand in the cave made of frozen ice. I placed my finger over my lips to express the need for him to be quiet. He was talking a mile a minute in a loud voice not understanding the danger he was in. All I could think about was the cave would fall in on us. I took his hand and led him out of the frozen wave. Never have I seen this before or since. It was a sight to behold!

The kid in me is always ready for a "new" adventure. It can be a morning sunrise or seeing a sunset; it doesn't have to cost a lot of money just moments are my specialty. Capturing a beautiful moment.

Yes, it can be cold sometimes. Other times it is too hot and uncomfortable. But I arrive to seize that moment in time.

Collection - Italian Men and Women

What fun it was to change color format to black and white format and then zoom in on just the face then crop in free download program called Picasa. This is what happened. Scary huh?

Some of you who have followed lightandvoices know that I collect Italian Men and guess what I found a woman at Stein Mart and here she is.

Cropped above image to focus on her face and what she is holding in her hands a bowl and bread. Now she stands in the kitchen on top of the refrigerator.

1/19 Outdoor Wednesday #106

Lake Michigan is still open water with chunks of ice gathering here and there. These curious Canada Geese may have been looking for a hand out. I wonder why they didn't fly south?

Isn't it amazing how long this Canada Goose can stand on that cold patch of ice.

This Canada Goose kept following me.

Guess, this Canada Goose needed a drink.

I love all the patterns this Canada Goose is walking on.

Pink Saturday - January 15, 2011

H-e-l-l-o......Ladies and Gentlemen. I'm back! This week my son, Norm and I went to the Smart Museum, University of Chicago, 5550 South Greenwood Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60637. Before we went in to see the exhibit, I had a wee bit of time to use my digital camera that I just happened to take along with me. And this is what "we" saw, PINK ICICLES! Holy Catfish, I said, yes I said, PINK ICICLES. Who would ever think that could happen; but it did. Here is the living proof.

Image was taken straight out of the camera; but was cropped. That is all. Pink on icicles are a reflection from the pink painted outside walls around an elevator on University of Chicago campus.

If you would like to participate or just oooh and ahhhh over pink posts click here: http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/. Thank you Beverly for all your hard work week end, month out and how many years have you been doing this?

Going to go put on a cup of hot chocolate and then look at all the lovely pink things posted this week. Happy New Year to all.

Wilmette Harbor, IL 2011.

Reflection, Lake Michigan, 2011.

Fragile, 2011.
Last time I visited Lake Michigan these three photographs spoke to me. I remember that it was a very cold day but one which revived my spirit even if I couldn't feel my fingers; my soul captured the feeling of gratitude. I claimed joy for the rest of the day. And so it is.

I couldn't peel this clementine by hand; so I took out a knife and began peeling it. I realized that the rind looked like a flower. John, my husband, thought it looked like a starfish. What do you think it looks like?
Hey, I thought clementines didn't have seeds. Oh well, there were only a few seeds to deal with. I bought a whole box of clementines. My husband and I can eat them until we drop. Hope to see you next week.
