"The first fall of snow is not only an event, but is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of world and wake up to find yourself in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?"

Outside of the Box Photograph #3

This moment caught in this image speaks of nature (trees and sky), versus Cross, versus man made materials which was viewed at Florida State College, Lakeland, Florida, 12/2009. Notice how vertical and horizontal lines interplay with each other. I am doing a study, in this case, outside looking inside.

Warshing Clothes Recipe

I received this recipe in an email this week:

Warshing Clothes Recipe:

"Build fire in backyard to heat rainwater.
Set tubs so smoke won't blow in eyes if wind is pert.
Shave one whole cake of lie soap in boiling water.

Sort things. Make three piles.
1 pile white
1 pile colored
1 pile work britches and rags
To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin
down with boiling water. Take white things, rub dirty spots
on board, scrub hard and boil. Then rub colored, don't boil
just wrench and starch.

Take things out of kettle with broom stick handle, then wrench and starch.
Hang old rags on fence.
Spread tea towels on grass.
Pore wrench water in flower bed.
Scrub porch with hot soapy water.
Turn tubs upside down.
Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs.
Brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings."

2/10 Outdoor Wednesday - #57

Click here to participate or view other blogs who have posted images for Outdoor Wednesday: http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/. Thank you Susan for being the hostess. I really look forward to this event each week.

Mardi Gras begins after the Epiphany and ends on the day before Ash Wednesday.

"Fat Tuesday" equals eating before the ritual of fasting for the
Lenten season.

Who dat?
Information about seeing this scene painted on wall of Charcoal Oven Restaurant click here: http://home.comcast.net/~jeffkrakow/Charcoal/index.html.

These outfits could be picked to wear for the Carnival celebrations.

Should I wear this mask?

Or hold this one?

Close-up of a mask.

Jeepers. To tell you the truth I have never been to New Orleans, Louisiana to celebrate Mardi Gras or even a "Fat Tuesday" event anywhere. Think I will celebrate at home by eating pancakes until I drop.

Quote by Gendum Rinpoche

"Happiness cannot be found though great effort and will power, but is already there, in relaxation and in letting-go. Don't strain yourself. There is nothing to do ... Only our search for happiness prevents us from seeing it. Don't believe in the reality of good and bad experiences; they are the rainbows.

Wanting to grasp the ungraspable, you exhaust yourself in vain.
As soon as you relax this grasping space is there open, inviting and comfortable.

So make use of it.
All is yours already.
Don't search any further.
Nothing to do.
Nothing to force.
Nothing to want,
___and everything happens by itself."

Pink Saturday - February 6, 2010

Click here to view other blogs who have posted Pink things: http://howsweetthesoundtypepad.com/my_weblog/.
Thank you Beverly for all your hard work to make Pink Saturday
possible.

It has been one gray day after another gray day
here in the mid-west. We are expecting snow tonight, tomorrow,
and yes even Sunday then next week more cloudy days.
Beverly asked us to visit one blog that we haven't been to before and add a link so here is my submission: http://www.artglehen.blogspot.com/.
I really liked the painting of tulips presented on this blog. Perhaps you will too.

When I was down at Lake Michigan, the sky was Pink. Notice that the water just had a thin piece of ice for the bird to stand on one foot. Baha'i House of Worship is in the Background.

Thematic Photographic 87 - On The Road

This time of year, long trips are limited because we question whether ice and snow has been cleared off highways. Even before we can go on errands, we need to use a snowbrush to clear snow off windows, taillights and headlights.
