Spring Is A Time For Gratitude

I would like to thank Liz LeBlanc, a professor at Oakton Community College, Des Plaines, Illinois, who spent many hours teaching me how to write a short story in an independent study class. Interested in taking college classes: http://oakton.edu/.

I also want to thank my husband, John Meyer and the rest of my family for always being there for me.

But most of all I would like to thank Elisabeth Bacon for a 20 year friendship. We shared ideas, books, quotations, and our work with each other. She was the photographer and artist. While I was writing poetry, short stories, and newspaper articles. She urged me to start blogging so I did last autumn. Elisabeth shipped a Sony digital camera to me. What an amazing gift! Rain, Sleet and Snow

I took this photograph by shooting through car windshield before wipers were turned on. As ice melted and slid down window, camera caught this reaction. Background are trees and a canal. Image taken near Baha'i Temple, Wilmette, Illinois.

Trail Marker Trees and Art Gallery of Dennis Downes

Dennis Downes, a watercolor artist, had an exhibit at The Grove, Glenview, IL. On Sunday, April 5th, I felt priviledged to have seen his work. According to his brochure, Mr. Downes creates his own paper from native grasses and his original paintings are displayed in homemade frames using porcupine quills and glass bead inlays.

At the entrance to the Lake Country Discovery Museum, Mr. Downes has on display a 16 foot bronze sculpture, TRAIL MARKER TREE.

Pink morning glory flower with raindrops.

Morning glories climb up our fence and greet folks coming into our yard during the summer months. Usually they are blue in color, but last year pink flowers showed up too. I admire their delicate look and their strong roots. At night and early morning, their blooms are closed. It is one of my husband's favorite flowers. I adore them too.

Here is my entry for Friday Finds of a fountain. It is located in the entrance area at Evanston Hospital, Evanston, Illinois. This fountain has a WOW effect on me. The first thing a person sees is a water fountain. What makes it different is water is flowing down a whole wall. Yes, I said the whole wall.

First, I took an image of the whole wall. Then I zoomed in on shapes on the wall. Now this shape looks like a puzzle piece in a United States map doesn’t it? Which state does it look like to you?

Thematic Photographic 43 - Reflective

At this exact spot, there used to be an antique store. I would go there periodically and shop until I dropped; but because of the unstable foundation the building faced demolition. Now I am probably one of the few people that can remember that there was an antique store there. Thoughts of the past is not a rare thing for me to do. For who I am is what happened to me in the past, what my choices for today and create plans for tomorrrow. This is what makes me different from the person standing next to me. Being reflective is an ok thing to do. I try to live moment to moment, day to day and not dwell on the past. But when I drive by this spot, my thoughts go back in time.

I'm not sure when this skyscraper was built. It has stood there in that exact spot for quite a while. This building certainly isn't made of a product for a tornado area. Yet this building still stands.

Glass and metal and shapes are a continuous theme for me to study. So whenever I pass this structure I look. I don't normally have my camera with me. This day I did.

Outdoor Wednesday

So far this week in Illinois we had several inches of snow, then another day we experienced a downpour of rain, and then we had the occasional blue skies. We do not have flowering trees or tulips yet. So here is what I found to shoot for Outdoor Wednesday. First, I aimed lens up under this bridge. Notice the peeling paint, the metal nuts and bolts and spaces of darkness and light.

Point the camera down at a man hole cover. Shapes are so interesting to me.

This looks like a prehistoric man but I was told it was a cable locater. I live and learn each day. Think I will pop over to see other Outdoor Wednesday posts.
