Life is too short to stay inside even when there is ice forming at Lake Michigan. It isn't easy putting on the boots, the mittens, the parka; but I grab the camera and go. It is like a miracle being down at the lake. Hear that sound of waves roaring in and then the waves gently turning around and going back out to sea; that is like an AHA moment for me. I breath in the fresh air. I stand on frozen sand and rejoice that I am alive. This is worth it.

Each year that I have photographed Lake Michigan shoreline during the winter season, the beach and the lake always looks different. We haven't had a lot of snow. Using my imagination, I think the place looks like the surface of the moon. Eerie, huh?
Took one close-up of tire tracks on the beach and what do you think it looks like? A snow angel? A Japanese letter?
Quess I will go make some hot water and visit blogs while sipping a cup of tea. See you next week. Meanwhile take care.

The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?

Thinking Outside the Box
Title: Lost in Space
My husband and I were going to one of our favorite places to eat breakfast. Scents lured us into the establishment rather quickly; but afterward when we were walking back to the car, I noticed this newspaper clipping on the ground. Of course, I did not have my camera with. So we drove home.
Later on that day, I went on some errands. I took my camera and went back to the site to capture that little piece of newspaper clipping. I didn't know if it was still there. It might have blown away; but I had faith that it was still there. It was!
I took a couple of shots. A few days later it snowed.
Here is what I felt:
How strange it was to find a dime next to the newspaper clipping. It wasn't there before.
I imagined newspaper clipping to look like bleached bones of buffalo.
What separated this newspaper clipping from the person who tore it out?
I felt sad because the newspaper clipping was lost.
I was amazed that I was able to find this subject to shoot.
It was a windy day in the Chicagoland area and surprised that the newspaper clipping was still there.
I wonder if it is hiding under all that snow?
FYI: I took a basic image of wooden chips and a newspaper clipping thought perhaps if I play with it in a photo program, it could look different. And so, I did. This is what I came up with. I wanted the newspaper clipping to be lost in space to be recovered at another time and place by someone else.

"Snowflakes were now falling around my feet. A few melted as they hit the ground. Others stayed intact. Then I heard the falling of the snow, with the softest hissing sound. I stood transfixed, listening…and knew what can never be expressed: that the natural is supernatural, and that I am the eye that hears and the ear that sees, that what is outside happens in me, that outside and inside are unseparated.”

Changes are happening everywhere. Companies are going out of business. Schools are cutting programs. Houses are not selling. I don't even want to mention the unemployment situation . On the news last night, I heard that prices are going up this year for food and clothing. This sign caught my eye...."SORRY WE'RE CLOSED. My husband and I have lived through many recessions. Our parents survived a depression. Even though we can not F4 and then turn off the computer to get us unstuck from these problems, I am going to have faith that times will get better.
In 2012 I believe:
New companies will open up for business.
Schools will introduce new programs for students.
Families will be able to purchase a home.
Relatives, friends, and neighbors will be employed.
Divine Order.
And so it is.

We search so much for the right choices, the right paths to walk,
the right time, the right reasons and the right person.
But life isn't just about searching for things.
It is also about letting the unexpected happen
and finding joy in things and people that we never searched for.

"Every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past."
