Pink Saturday - August 29, 2009
Could this be a Pink Flamingo in the northern part of Wisconsin? Yeppers. It is! Notice the wings have been clipped. Otherwise, they would be in Florida where it is sunny and warm not grey, windy and chilly.
I think I will go heat up some hot chocolate, fry up some eggs over easy and then go check out what folks have posted at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/. Thank you Beverly for being our hostess.

Pink Saturday - August 22, 2009
My husband and I went to check out a lake nearby and discovered the low water level would make it impossible to access the lake without using tall boots or hip wadders. We determined that it would be just too gross for us to walk in all that mud. This outing turned into a photo shoot instead of a fishing excursion. I couldn't pass up this shot of a Pink flower hugging a boulder.
Happy Pink Saturday! If you want to participate post a Pink theme at: http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/. Thank you Beverly for being our hostess.

Sky Watch Friday #58
At the Fishing Hall of Fame-Hayward, Wisconsin, we climbed a steep stairway and then we were standing in the mouth of a muskie. Here is what it looked like from inside.

8/19 - Outdoor Wednesday - #32
Our forest animals are popping up everywhere. We have black and grey squirrels running around daily but this is the first time we saw a white squirrel ever. John, my husband, named him/her Whiteeeeee. Notice its pink ears and eyes. John ran here and chased the white squirrel there until finally it posed in this tree. Whiteeeee must have known John was not going to give up.
Another time we were driving down a beautiful rural road when all of a sudden we saw Boo-Boo looking for a picnic basket. Boo-Boo decided not to cross the road. Instead Boo-Boo high tailed it into the green, green woods without a picnic basket. Poor Boo-Boo.
Last but not least, we saw this Blue Heron standing in a bay fishing. Why are they called Blue Heron's when they really are grey?
Our forest buddies are waving bye-bye for now.

I discovered this lovely Pink Zinnia planted in the gardens at the Fishing Hall of Fame, Hayward, Wisconsin. The black background was eye catching because it was smooth and rough textured. Shot was taken mid-afternoon during the heat of the day. Notice the small green leaf on the stem.

Type 17615 in the Search box at the top of Recipezaar, to get back to this recipe easily.
Read other comments. These are some suggestions I noted on my copy of this recipe:
Use 1 drop of red food color.
Add 1 or 2 teaspoons of Almond Extract.
Frost with cherry juice and powdered sugar or you could use melted chocolate instead.
How about pressing a Dove chocolate in the middle or a Hershey Cordial Kiss.
Use your imagination and be the creative cook that you are.
Thanks for visiting!

Thematic Photograph #62 - Abandoned
Recently, I was walking in a pasture and discovered this abandoned old brake rotor. It was tossed aside because it got thin, over heated and/or warped. Pine needles have gathered on this rotor; but notice new life is hugging its shade and gathering enough water and sun to grow. I hope this plant survives the long, cold winter ahead.

8/12 Outdoor Wednesday #31
Howdy! So glad you dropped by to visit.
This log pile was cut and stacked by our younger son named Norm. We have a grand total of six piles of lumber cut to be used as firewood. Norm and my husband John, and a relative named Bob, helped a friend clear his yard of fallen trees. Then firewood was brought over to our cabin using a 1986 Ford FT150 XLT blue truck. Luckily, no springs on the truck were broken.
This fire pit was originally made by cub scouts using bricks. Notice that most of the brick has been broken from the hot heat. When bricks fall onto the ground we just build it back using the old bricks. Some day, we will need to redo this fire pit. Right now, this fire pit is good enough.
Smoke went this way.
Smoke went that way.
Here is a photograph of a Pink cross hanging on a bent tree near the fire pit. This tree in the past was used as a rocking horse by a visiting toddler named Thomas. This August, Thomas celebrated his eleventh birthday. Time does fly when one is having fun!
This unidentified plant sits in a pail on top of a tree trunk. It has been rained on. But for days on end, it put up with smoke, heat and fire burning in the fire pit.
This is a close-up of the same flower. It seems to like the location.
We had sixteen guests staying at our cabin last week. Yes, I said sixteen. We only have three bedrooms and one bathroom. Yes, I said one bathroom. These people are used to camping out, hunting and fishing. So they brought along the queen size blow up mattresses and four tents which they set-up outside. They experienced chilly nights and had the fire going night and day for warmth and to keep bears, fox, coyote and other wild animals out of their tents. A neighbor came by and called the fire "the eternal olympic torch."

Quote by BLACK ELK, OGLALA SIOUX
Everything the Power of the World
does is done in a circle. The sky is
round and I have heard that the earth
is round like a ball and so are all the stars.
The wind, in its greatest power, whirls.
Birds make their nests in circles,
for theirs is the same religion as ours.
The sun comes forth and goes down
again in a circle. The moon does the
same and both are round. Even the
seasons form a great circle in their
changing and always come back again
to where they were. The life of a man
is a circle from childhood to childhood.
And so it is in everything where power moves.
